When Is Oktoberfest 2022?

When Is Oktoberfest

Like most events in 2020 and 2021, Oktoberfest cancelled during these years to prevent the further spreading of the pandemic. If you miss the festivities of Oktoberfest and are already itching to have the same fun experience you’ve had in previous years, need not worry as the next Wiesn is coming in 2022.

From September 17-October 3, 2022, the Theresienwiese grounds will once again be home to the Munich Oktoberfest! Whether you’ve been visiting the Oktoberfest like religion or it’s your first time to go to the event, it will surely be a fantastic experience, mainly because it will be the first Oktoberfest since 2019! To know more about Oktoberfest, such as how to get to Theresienwiese and how to get reservations, we’ll help you in this article.

How will Oktoberfest start in 2022?

Awaited by everyone, the Oktoberfest will start with the traditional tapping ceremony at noon to begin the Wiesn with the traditional “O’zapft is!” from Mayor Dieter Reiter! After Oktoberfest starts, you can expect the other traditional events associated with the Wiesn to take place, such as the parade of the Wiesn landlords and breweries, the costume and hunters’ parade, the Wiesn church service, and the traditional gun salutes by the Bavaria statue!

Since the Wiesn cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are looking forward to Oktoberfest 2022.

According to Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter, “The risk is simply too great that people could be infected with the Corona virus here. I know how hard this is not only for the visitors, but also how much it affects all those who work at the Wiesn and now have to do without income once again – from the waiters and waitresses to the stall operators, showmen and innkeepers. But the Wiesn can only exist completely or not at all.”

Where will Oktoberfest take place?

Like it has been since the first Oktoberfest in 1810, 2022’s Wiesn will take place in the Theresienwiese, Munich’s largest fairground located near the centre of the capital. With the Bavaria statue looking over the fairground, it’s easy to see the place once you get there.

If you’re bringing your own vehicle but do not know how to get to Theresienwiese, you can search for the location for online maps. However, if you want to get there fast and without the trouble of getting lost and finding parking, we highly recommend you to go to the Wiesn via public transport and take a train at any of the nearest underground stations, such as those in Theresienwiese and Goetheplatz.

How to find reservations for beer tables in a tent during Oktoberfest?

If you want to enjoy the festive atmosphere with your companions, the first thing you have to do is secure a reservation for beer tables in a tent before the Wiesn to ensure that you have a spot. Since many people flock to Munich to attend the Wiesn, it can be tough to find tables, especially when you try to find one late.

To reserve a table for your group, you can book one online or call each marquee’s central reservation office via telephone. With a reservation, you won’t just guarantee your party a table; you can also get food & beverage vouchers.

If you can’t reserve a table, you should know that not all tables are open for reservation as a massive part of the tables saved for unplanned visitors making a spontaneous attendance at the Wiesn.

For Oktoberfest reservations, Thirsty Swagman offers affordable Oktoberfest packages for you to enjoy the Wiesn.

If Oktoberfest is held in September, why is it called the Oktoberfest?

Yes, most of the Wiesn takes place in September until it reaches its final days in October. However, it’s called the Oktoberfest because the first time it happened was October 12-17, 1810, for the wedding of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen.

The event was so popular that people repeated the event in the following years, a tradition that continues until now. However, throughout history, the schedule became what it is now. It’s a great thing, though, as the summer weather at the end of September provides a perfect feeling for the Wiesn.

What to wear at the Oktoberfest?

To truly feel the Wiesn atmosphere, you need to have good attire. Traditionally, men wear lederhosen shorts while women wear dirndl dresses.

You can still wear regular clothes at the Wiesn, but you might find yourself being one of the only few wearing daily attire in a sea of people wearing eye-catching traditional clothing.

The Oide Wiesn

If you want a more traditional approach to the Oktoberfest, you might want to pay a visit to the Oide Wiesn before going to Oktoberfest. Having a warm and cheerful feeling compared to the Oktoberfest’s intense party atmosphere, the Oide Wiesn was supposed to be a one-time event for the 200th anniversary of Oktoberfest in 2010.

Since then, it has continued in northwestern Theresienwiese, where you need a 3€ admission fee for adults and free admission for children up to 14 years old. You can enjoy a more traditional Oktoberfest with brass music, historical attractions, rides and rollercoasters, and more when you get there.

Do you want the real Oktoberfest experience?

As the Oktoberfest comes back in 2022, it will surely be a unique situation that you shouldn’t miss, and the Thirsty Swagman is here to ensure that you will have a great time next year.
