Overlanding is defined as traveling “overland” to remote places or other outdoor areas where the focus is not on the destination but on the journey you and your companions take. This is done through vehicles, mostly those made offroad, such as Jeeps, SUVs, and pick-up trucks. However, “off-roading” can be quite difficult without the right overland truck accessories installed in the vehicle.
While it may be attractive to think that you are fully ready for “off-roading” just because you have one of these vehicles, there are a few things you need to make sure that you have before crossing that muddy trail or crawling over those rocks along the way.
If you’re wondering why you can’t just hop on the driver’s seat of your 4×4 to go off-roading tomorrow, you should think about the regular race car or even something as simple as the maintenance check of your everyday car.
What off-roading, racing, and daily driving have in common is a checklist. What this does is that it inhibits the racing team or the individual from facing some mechanical problems or unfortunate events. Race Cars are known to overheat as they overuse their engine in an endurance race. A part of the team’s checklist is the best possible cooling system for that engine. As your car ages, mechanisms wear out, and it would be wise to do maintenance checks to solve these obstacles before they get worse.
In the case of off-roading, there are many possible “disasters” such as overheating, running out of fuel, or the incredibly frustrating case of lingering on mud. Just as you would with the race car or regular vehicle, you would prepare yourself for the worst-case scenario.

If you’re thinking of going offroad, you will need some of these installments. Companies such as RCI have developed skid plates and rock sliders for any place with rocky terrains. These skid plates essentially protect the engine, transmission, and other vital mechanisms while rock sliders defend the sides of the vehicle. Recovery devices recover the vehicle from an undesirable location, including winches, shovels, and jacks that MAXTRAX and other companies have made for this purpose.
There is always the case when the vehicle runs out of fuel as it consumes a lot when going Overlanding. RotopaX and many other companies have made fuel containers to avoid an empty gas tank.
There is also the case of finding clean water for consumption and hygiene, and especially in places with bacteria and parasites “living” in river and stream waters, it is difficult to find it. Thankfully, there are Lifesaver Jerry Cans that can filter out up to 5,000 gallons of water.
A priority should also be set on the roof as tents and racks are essential installments for your 4×4. Roof tents are required if you want to camp out to rest for another long journey, and this works well on flatter lands. The roof racks of MAXTRAX and PrinSu accommodate the “luggage” that people bring along with them for Overlanding trips.
Bed racks are for comfort in cases where Overlanding may take more time than expected. Leitner Designs, RCI, and upTOP Overland are just some businesses that have developed some of the best bed racks for sale.
Without question, Overlanding is one of the most enjoyable things to do, especially if you want to step out of the house and view the beauty of nature. However, you need to make sure you have all you need to make that trip possibly one of the best ones you could ever be on.
