The Statue of Unity is the massive statue in the world build in the name of independence activist Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with a height of 182 meters (597 ft), located on the banks of the River Narmada, overlooking Sardar Sarovar Dam, in the state of Gujarat, India. The statue inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2018, on the occasion of Sardar Patel’s 143rd birth anniversary. The Prime Minister announced its construction on October 7, 2010, and the statue constructed on record time. As many people visit this place every year, it has become one of the best places to visit in India.
Sadar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India. He was the chief supporter of lawyer M.K. Gandhi also famous as Mahatma Gandhi, during the non-violent Indian Independence movement. Sardar Patel was responsible for the association of 562 princely states to form the modern Republic of India; that is why he was known as the “Iron Man of India.”
The Statue of Unity built by the Larsen & Toubro Company won the contract with the lowest bid to construct it.
L&T Company employed 3000+ laborers to build and about 250 engineers in the statue’s construction.
It took 3 years and 9 months to build the [Statue of Unity].
Materials used to build the statue were 2,12,000 liters of concrete, 18,000 tonnes of reinforced steel, and 6,565 bronze panels.
The total cost of making the statue was INR 2,989 crore.
Four high-speed lifts installed inside the legs of the statue, and each lift can accommodate about 26 people to reach the top in just 30 seconds.
Lakhs of tourists visit the place every year, and till now, the Statue of Unity earned approximately 80 crores.
The entry ticket costs around INR 120 for adults and INR 60 for kids between the ages of 3 to 15 years. This entry ticket valid to places like the valley of flowers, memorial, museum, and audiovisual gallery. And the ticket for the observation deck costs around INR 300 for adults and INR 200 for kids.
On Monday, the [Statue of Unity] is closed due to maintenance work.
October to March is the perfect time to visit the statue as the weather conditions expected during those months.
The [Statue of Unity] opens six days a week except on Mondays, and the timings to visit the place are from morning 8 to evening 6.
An Indian artist, Ram.V.Sutar, designed the [Statue of Unity[.
Level 1 – From the base up to the statue’s shins – museum taking down Sardar Patel’s contribution, and a memorial garden.
Level 2 – This extends up to the thigh area of the statue at 149 meters.
Level 3 – This level consists of the viewing gallery with breath-taking views of the River Narmada and the surrounding Satpura and Vindhyachal mountains.
